Which type of card is right for me?
- An ATM card allows you to deposit and withdraw funds from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).
- An EMV Debit card allows you access to ATMs and to make Point of Sales at merchant terminals. The funds are automatically withdrawn directly from your account.
How do I apply for a ATM or Debit Card?
You can apply when you open your account or if you already have an established account, just stop in and visit with one of our personal bankers. With Instant Issue, you can receive and use your new debit card within 24 hours of applying.
Learn more about the New EMV Technology
As of August 2016, all current First Bank Hampton debit cardholders will receive a new EMV debit card at renewal time (check the expiration date on the front of your current card) or you can come into the bank and replace it immediately with an Instant Issue Card.
What does EMV technology stand for?
First developed and used in Europe, EMV stands for Europay, MasterCard*, and Visa* and is more commonly called a chip card. It features a small embedded chip on the front side of the card which stores your personal account information more securely as well as the traditional magnetic stripe on the back side.
How does it work?
Whenever you use your EMV debit card at a chip-activated terminal, the embedded chip will create a one-time use code which is unique to that one transaction. This new feature will help prevent counterfeiting, and in-store fraud.
Where can I use my card?
You can use your card locally, nationally and even globally! It is accepted world-wide at millions of places that accept MasterCard*.
How do I use my EMV debit card?
You can use your card at any merchant terminal or ATM. If the terminal or ATM is chip-activated, simply insert your debit card face side up, with the chip side inserted into terminal. Leave your card in terminal until the transaction is complete. Then remove your card. If the merchant or ATM is not chip-activated, you simply swipe your card.
